Arrival & The Spirit of the Bagmati
Distance & Time: Approx. 8–10 km (total travel); 45 minutes of driving.
Your journey begins at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM), where you will be met and transferred to your hotel in the bustling district of Thamel. Thamel is the tourism hub of Nepal, a maze of narrow streets filled with shops selling trekking gear, colorful pashminas, and local handicrafts. After settling in, spend your afternoon wandering through these lanes—a perfect introduction to the sensory richness of the city.
In the late afternoon, drive approximately 5 km to the Pashupatinath Temple, the most sacred Hindu shrine in Nepal. While the main temple is reserved for Hindus, visitors can explore the surrounding complex of shrines and the banks of the Bagmati River. As the sun sets, you will witness the Bagmati Aarti. This grand spiritual ceremony involves priests performing rhythmic rituals with massive oil lamps, accompanied by Vedic chants and bells. The reflection of the fire on the water and the deep devotion of the pilgrims create a powerful atmosphere that defines the spiritual essence of Kathmandu.

Kathmandu—The Valley of Gods
Distance & Time: Approx. 15–20 km circuit; 4–5 hours of sightseeing + travel.
Today is dedicated to exploring the UNESCO World Heritage sites of the valley. Start with a 3 km drive west to Swayambhunath Stupa, famously known as the Monkey Temple. Perched on a hilltop, you’ll climb 365 steps to reach the golden spire. From here, the panoramic view of Kathmandu city against the backdrop of the mountains is unrivaled.
Next, head to Kathmandu Durbar Square (2 km away). This ancient royal palace complex showcases the peak of Newari craftsmanship. You’ll visit the Kumari Ghar, the residence of the Living Goddess, and marvel at the wooden carvings of the Hanuman Dhoka Palace. Afterward, drive 6 km east to Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest spherical stupas in the world. This is the center of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal. The area is filled with monasteries and small shops selling incense and singing bowls. Walking clockwise around the stupa alongside monks and devotees is a meditative experience. End your day with a quiet dinner at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the massive white dome.

Distance & Time: Approx. 215 km; 7–8 hours total (including sightseeing stops).
Leaving the city behind, your first stop is the Chandragiri Hills cable car station, located about 12 km from the city center. After soaking in the views, begin the long but scenic drive to Pokhara.
The road follows the winding Trishuli River, a popular spot for white-water rafting. You will pass through rural townships, terraced rice fields, and lush green hills. The journey is approximately 200 km from the base of Chandragiri. Upon reaching Pokhara, the transition from the city's chaos to the serene lakeside atmosphere is immediate. Check into your hotel near Phewa Lake. The evening is yours to enjoy a peaceful walk along the lakeside, where the reflection of the Annapurna Range in the water serves as a stunning welcome to the "City of Lakes."

Distance & Time: Approx. 210 km; 8–9 hours including stops.
Today’s return journey to Kathmandu includes two major cultural highlights. First, drive 75 km to Bandipur, a hilltop settlement that has preserved its 18th-century Newari architecture. It is the perfect place for a traditional lunch with a view.
Next, continue to Kurintar to board the Manakamana Cable Car. The 10-minute ride takes you to the Manakamana Devi Temple, dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Bhagwati. Local legend says that the goddess fulfills the wishes of those who visit her with a pure heart. The temple offers a unique glimpse into deep-rooted Nepalese religious traditions. After descending back to the highway, complete the final 100 km drive back into the Kathmandu Valley. The drive through the Nagdhunga pass at sunset offers a twinkling view of the city lights as you descend back into the capital for your final night.
